Judges found the design to be clean and inviting and the writing to be sharp. Mix of stories felt intimate to the college and inclusive of broader topics. Both short and long pieces were engaging in their own way. The judges appreciated creative approaches to standard alumni magazine sections. Design was nicely tailored to each feature. An enjoyable experience even for non-alumni readers.

Title of Entry: Boston College Magazine
About this Entry: Boston College Magazine is the award-winning magazine of Boston College. We tell the stories of BC faculty, alumni, and students who are working to make the world a better place. The print edition of Boston College Magazine is published three times a year and is delivered to nearly 200,000 homes. We also engage our audience through digital storytelling, including online exclusives, photos and videos, a podcast, an email newsletter, and social media.
The Spring 2020 issue includes a lead story about Britt Pados and her research on infant feeding struggles; a package celebrating the 50th anniversary of BC's popular modular housing (aka the Mods); and a fun profile on a BC alum who's one of 269 master sommeliers in the world. The Summer 2020 issue includes a hopeful lead package detailing how BC faculty, staff, and students responded to the COVID-19 pandemic shuttering campus; a fascinating profile on an alum who's now a K-pop sensation; and a meditation on the idea of truth in a time when everyone has their own opinions and their own facts. These two issues also represent the evolution of the front-of-book Linden Lane section, as we continuously elevate and refine the storytelling and design.
